Netcomm Wireless Access Point with TPG NBN

SOLVED Go to solution

A friend just moved from TPG DSL to TPG NBN and says her existing wireless access point (Netcomm NP127) no longer works. She was previously using a TPG-supplied Linksys modem but now has a TPG-supplied Huawei 659 modem. 3 story house with the kids wanting to use Netflix, so definitely keen to find a fix!

Are there any known problems with using Netcomm NP127 wireless access point with the Huawei 659 modem?

Hi Luna,

Have you had a chance to configure your Netcomm NP127 so that it can connect to the new Huawei Router instead of the old TP-Link one?

I have attached the instructions below and have highlighted the relevant sections.

The details for the TPG supplied router are on a sticker that is on the back of it.

Once the wireless access point has been updated it should all work normally

If you want it as simple as possible you can do a LAN to LAN connection between the huawei and the netcomm. It's simple and easy to configure.
1. Connect the netcomm to the huawei via Lan cable. You can use any Lan port like from lan 1of huawei to lan 1 of the netcomm
2. Log in to the netcomm GUI and look in LAN setup.
3. Change the I.P address of the netcomm to 192.168.1.254 and disable the DHCP server.

Note.
If you have to reconfigure the netcomm like changing wifi settings you need to go to 192.168.1.254

This will make your netcomm as an access point only and the dhcp is still on the huawei.

This should also work if you are going to connect them via wireless.

Hi, JovemarL

Thanks for sharing this.

Are you able to instruct how to set up D-Link 2888A as the access point to the TPG supplied NBN modem?

thanks a lot.

Hi @tangming82gz,

Welcome to TPG Community!

In order to set your D-Link 2888A to a LAN to LAN connection;

1.) Access your D-Link interface (enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar)

2.) If prompted with a log in screen, click Log In to proceed. No password is enabled by default.

3.) Go to Settings, then click on Network.

4.) Under Network Settings, change the LAN IP Address to 192.168.1.254, else leave it by default.

5.) Look for DHCP Server, then set it to Disabled.

6.) Save the changes.

Note.
If you have to reconfigure the D-Link like changing wifi settings you need to go to 192.168.1.254

You may now connect the LAN 1 of your D-Link to the LAN 1 of your TPG supplied modem.

Dear Basil

Thanks very much for your prompt reply.

Is there any way I can use D-Link 2888A as the modem for NBN internet use while using the TPG supplied modem for the VoIP service (which means the TPG modem to be as the access point?)

Thanks very much

Hi @tangming82gz,

It is not possible.

The NBN VoIP service will work as long as the TPG supplied modem is configured as it is. If it's going to be used as an Access point, then the said service will not work.

The settings for the NBN VoIP service is embedded to your TPG supplied modem which requires to be authenticated in order for it to work.

Kind regards,

BasilDV

Dear BasilDV

Thanks for your detailed explaination.

Once the D-Link 2888A is set as access point, which SSID and password should I search in the Windows?

Is that still the TPG default ID on the modem or the D-Link one?

Quoting your advice ' If you have to reconfigure the D-Link like changing wifi settings you need to go to 192.168.1.254', does this mean the default admin will no longer be 192.168.1.1?

thanks a lot.

Hi @tangming82gz,

Both of the WiFi connection of your D-link and TPG supplied modem will still work.

You may use either one of them as the D-Link will only work as an access point (Wireless and Wired extension).

The 192.168.1.1 will no longer be used for the D-Link access point, but it will still work with your TPG supplied modem. This change will avoid conflict on both devices.
