SPAM EMAILS - 2019

G'day All,

Well it's 2019 and getting more and more of those crappy SPAM emails from ALDI, Casino's, Bitcoin and the rest, with a slight name change to each SPAM email to beat my TPG advanced settings and filters ( Bastards).

For example in " Mail Filter Settings " for  Block Email Addresses,  i have 745 entries and in the Advanced Filters,  i have 3980 entries, in different combinations to attempt to block the crap, but nope, they keep finding a way of getting around the system. Getting a tad annoying i say.

I have asked TPG technical support for assistance to see if they can come up with a better solution to start clearing the daily SPAM, but the only solution they have is to either change my email address or keep going with the Mail Filter Settings and put up with it.

So its 2019, we can fly to MARS and beam back footage of the rocks, but still can't seem to get rid of SPAM in my inbox.  So am asking, what are you all using these days to avert all these SPAM. Is there a simple system that you can click on the email and it puts it into a Mail Filter System automatically, instead of opening up multiple screens and then copy and pasting address every second of the day.

I use Outlook 2016, Nortons Antispam Block list and TPG Mail Filter Settings to attempt the great SPAM email blockade.

Thanks to all.

Hi @05,

Have you tried using the filtering option of your Outlook 2016? We have here in community about 'Unwanted Emails' or on how to filter your email using your post office.

You may check this link. Unwanted e-mails

Thanks to @Luna

Let me know how it will go.

Cheers!

G'day Shane,

I have read the link that was provided, unfortunately it doesn't help my cause. I already use teh following

1. Outlook 2016 mail Filter

2. Nortons Antispam Block

3. TPG Mail  -  Advanced /Filter Settings

I'll keep plodding along until something comes up.

Thanks.

Hi @05,

Since you've been receiving a vast amount of SPAM even though you've created a large number for the advance filtering combination. You might need to consider to run a full scan of your network and anti-virus, as it is one of the issues that may cause this. Make sure that the security of your computer and network is set on high along with the firewall.

This is the only way to limit or decrease the SPAM that you are receiving everyday. Also, please be cautious on the websites that requires your email address as some will cause you this problem.

Kind regards,

BasilDV

@BasilDV - That's your 'expert' opinion? Perhaps you should see below & maybe do a little google searching homework first?

Your virus scanner and firewall have nothing to do with your email address.

This is just yet another useless step that really you don't need to waste time or effort on - particularly if you already have a virus scanner with Real-Time Protection (which most do nowadays) and a firewall (in most cases your ROUTER acts as a firewall). Most virus scan software is by default set to do periodic scans of your machine as well. There isn't much of a need to scan your computer when its scanning itself anyway.

@BasilDV - Try again maybe?

This is the only part of your post with some basis in truth/reality.

@05 - Some websites/forum boards are not as.....respectful of your confidentiality as we might like. The owners of these sites sell your email details to  anyone who wants them - including many less-than-scrupulous advertisers who then proceed to flood your inbox with virtual cat litterbox liner. When I say "some sites", its more like 95% of sites that aren't banks, finantial institutions or companies that have a confidentiality policy that's more strict than a fruitarian diet.

The only real way to avoid getting the influx of spam (expecially since your email address is already out in the proverbial spam wilds) is to - in essence - set up a drag net.

Set up a dedicated 'spam email address' which you use only for signing up to forums/sites etc which may have questionable confidentiality practices. A good example would be a free Microsoft or Gmail account. Then create a new email address for all your legitimate correspondence which you do not give out in 99% of cases. The only times you need to check the 'spam' email address is to clear it out once in a blue moon, if at all.

Unfortunately there's no way to 'repair' the damage done already with your existing address, because it is already out there in the spam mail lists. You could always use this one as your dedicated spam box since its there.

This way your personal/legitimate email address is kept spam free.
