Internet stopped working

My internet continuously stops working. It works for about 5-10mijs then stops then sometimes comes back on..... then stops again. My netgear is connected to the modem but it says there is no internet connection between the modem and the internet. If i restart the modem it does the same again. I have done reinstall of my netgear, switched modem on and off and disconnected the adsl connection into the wall adapter and reconnected it but it still continues to happen.... suggestions???
