TPG free upgrade email for my HFC Superfast 100 NBN was received on 24/2/21 but as yet no email regarding confirmation. Speed tests tonight however are exciting indicating the service has changed. Desktop PC with GB Ethernet direct to the TPG router: Download 310Mbps Upload 47Mbps Iphone using 5GHz WiFi: Download 290Mbps Upload 46Mbps Previously, the best was a very fast Download of 95Mbps, Upload 35Mbps. Q1: I have yet to receive a final email thus can I assume that TPG is still in the testing process for the upgrade? Q2: Will the final roll out provide the amazing speed increases indicated by my tests? Q3: Is speedtest.net telling the truth about speeds? If these speeds are realised in the final roll out, I will be singing TPG's praises to all who will listen, and if so then a huge "Well done" to TPG.

I recently added a number of wifi home automation devices and the last two would not connect to the wifi network. After checking the HG659, I counted 32 total devices in the W/LAN. Some were active and others were greyed out. I deleted all the greyed out devices and re-booted the HG659 and was able to connect the last two devices. That was good but I am now again having problems with additional devices not being able to connect. I know that 32 devices is a large number but only a few of my devices are in use at once and the home automation devices are very low data use. The 32 device limit is wierd as the DHCP server can handle up to 254 IP addresses and my NBN service is on the 100Mbps top tier so that bandwidth shouldn’t be problematic. Is there a fix to this problem such as firmware update or setting fix? My current hardware is Ver. B, software V100R001C216B112

Three days ago my NBN HFC connection was installed and I fired up the TPG supplied Huawei HG659 and the Internet and VoIP worked immediately. I have been using a USB drive as a network attached storage on my old router and have found it really useful for LAN sharing of files. Unfortunately I plugged my USB drive into the HG659 and set up the SAMBA server as per the TPG/Huawei instructions but I could not access the drive through the network. The problem is that SAMBA (and FTP) do not have a default Access Control List (ACL) setup by TPG and this requirement is not made clear in the instructions. Firstly plug the USB drive into a USB port on the HG659 and log into the setup utility. Setup the SAMBA server in the Sharing section, add a user name and password, drive and permissions as per the HG659 manual. (Sharing section) Setup an Access Control List for the SAMBA server to access the LAN as follows: Open the Internet tab in the HG659 setup page Select network Security Tab Select ACL Select +New ACL In Service Type select SAMBA In Access Direction Select LAN Click Save. Logout. In Windows file explorer, right mouse on network Select map network drive. Select the drive letter required. In the folder text box enter: \\192.168.1.1\username then click Finish (username is the username that you set in the usb storage user part of HG659 user settings. Note that if you have changed the HG659 LAN address, then change the \\IP address\ part to be the same as the IP used to log onto the router) The security dialog box should open: Enter the user name (for the usb storage) Enter the password (for the usb storage) Click OK and you should now see and be able to access the USB drive The same ACL setup is required to access the FTP.
