Been a while now. The current modem is an Archer C1200 with Firmware 1.0.0 build 20180208 rel 59779. Is there an update for this one? And is it worth doing? Eg does it allow USB disk to connect using SMB2 or SMB3? Thanks,

Seems that somewhere along the line Microsoft removed SMB1 access from Windows 10 Home. But my C1200 modem requires SMB1 protocol for access to the USB-attached disk. After chasing Microsoft links all over the place to no effect, I asked Google and the first link shows how to install SMB1! https://www.tachytelic.net/2019/09/windows-10-enable-smb1/ Basically: at a Command Prompt, type optionalfeatures and select SMB1.0 Client from the list!

Oh dear. Solved. A previous change to my modem setup while on NBN 10, recommended by TPG Support, had my QOS Upload Bandwidth set to a max of 1000 kb/s and that was what I have been getting. Changed to a max of 20000 kb/s and now, today at 15:31, am getting 44 Mb/s down, 18.9 Mb/s upload! http://tpg.speedtestcustom.com/result/b5615320-70b4-11ea-b70f-75a7461fd286

I changed to NBN 50 two days ago. Last night download was approx 15 Mb/s and upload about 0.8 Mb/s. This is in Cairns for me: peter4870. This morning download about 45 Mb/s and upload still 0.8 Mb/s. http://tpg.speedtestcustom.com/result/ebdf9f40-707f-11ea-a17f-2929027ba587 No phone support, no chat support. I read here somewhere that NBN 50 download is configured to be up to 20 Mb/s. Are these speeds a TPG issue? Or NBN issue. Seems like I should drop back to NBN 10 since that's all I am getting in the evening/morning. Further, I did a test downloading a 100 MB file from Internode in Sydney and it comes in at approx 1 MB/s ~ 8-10 Mb/s. I recon I am still on NBN 10 despite paying for NBN 50 :(

Yes, Will, the modem died yesterday morning! Strange - no power light, no activity. But the WPS (?) light comes on, so power is being received. I guess that's one way to get updated firmware (I hope). Though inconvenient loss of internet.

I have an Archer C1200 as my NBN modem and have been using the USB attached disk over WiFi. Now that Apple iOS 13.2 allows access to NATs (over WiFi) I would like to connect using the iOS Files app but although the app connects to the Archer and finds the correct primary folder on the attached disk, it cannot access any files. A search on the web seems to suggest the Archer needs to be using SMB 2 or higher, whatever that means, for me to actually access files on the attached disk. Please help.

Well the tests you ran were not adequate for my location. I contacted TPG and they did a test and agreed there was a problem upstream of my modem. Issued ticket #8411902. They resolved whatever was the problem yesterday and its been stable for 24 hours. Ticket was closed today.

For the past two days the Internet has been mostly very poor here in Cairns North. But the TPG report says there are no issues. A SpeedTest, when it can connect at all, ranges from full speed (for me anyway) down to 1.89 Mbps download, 0.67 Mbps upload. Oh, in trying to report this here, the connection has dropped out twice.

I have two TPG NBN accounts for different locations in two states. I have a different name for each account. I want to be able to log in to Community using either acount since some issues are state-related. I thought I was doing this successfully until recently. Now I can only log in using one account name, not the other. I use only one email address to reset the password but this only resets the one account login that already works. How do I solve this?

So a direct connection is giving 4.5 MB/s, about twice as fast as WiFi connect. I recon both are poor! Thanks so much for taking the time to test, @orbistat.

Thanks @orbistat for your reply. The USB disk connected direct to my computer is plenty fast. Over WiFi from the Archer modem, however, transferring 35 MB, the inital speed is fast (buffered?) but for most of the transfer the speed is averaging 2 MB/s with 1s pauses between files. Is that good? Does not seem to me to be all-OK.

I just had a look at the LAN ports on my VR1600v. They are fully populated with eight pins. So all OK.

Usually, you can connect the laptop to the modem via cable or WiFi to configure it the first time, including setting up WiFi as you need. Thereafter WiFi should be available from the modem and so you can use your laptop anywhere it is in range.

Hi On my ADSL account I had a static IP address. But it appears that now on my NBN account it is dynamic. Please let me know if TPG is considering changing this. I do not want to go to a business plan.

Hi, I've just started on a basic NBN Plan to see how things go. I am told I can change plans at any time. Is that true? How long does it take? I am thinking about changing now to a faster plan and dropping back to a basic plan while I am absent from home for several months?

Yes, I would like to know too. My HFC connection became live just 2 hours ago. All working well at present, but I understand some HFC users have experienced dropouts and slow-downs.
