Regular Modem Dropouts

Good Morning,

 

Over the last few weeks I've been experiencing regular (upwards of 6x a day) internet drop outs that do not re-establish unless I reset the router. I had a similar issue briefly around a year ago that seemed to resolve itself once I changed the channels being used by the router. That hasnt made a difference this time.

What model is your modem/router?

Neither, it's an FTTC connection. It's an Archer VR1600V

Hi @hmack94 . When you have dropout, what is the state of lights on NBN box and the WAN and Internet lights on router?

When dropout occurs, before you restart it, can you login to VR1600 and check the System Log. Save the log on your device. What are the messages at the end when dropout occurs?

The internet and WAN lights on the router are off as is the LAN light on the NBN box with the DSL light flashing whilst previously being solid whilst the connection was working. I will save the log the next time it drops out.

@hmack94 . DSL light flashing means some fault upstream from the unit under the footpath. Could be a faulty NBN box that loses contact through NBN network.

The log will probably show PPP messages relating to timeouts on WAN connection.

@hmack94 . The   ppp4 User request   is different from a normal WAN timeout.

You could try a factory reset of the FTTC box.

A moderator needs to look at this to run a line test.

I am having a very similar problem. 

But only since moving to TPG from Telstra. 

I originally thought it a modem problem (as switched to TPG supplied modem when switched provider) but I've now put a brand new Archer AX53 and having the same problems. It is really fast when connected and then just drops out. Happening to all devices in the house.
