NBN FTTB - High latency on first hop

Hello. I have TPG FTTB plan and am experiencing high latency to my second hop. Low latency is important to me for games. I live in Melbourne CBD and based on this list (https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/australian_exchange_guide#aeg_vic) I'm assuming I'm connecting to the South Melbourne exchange which is ~2.7km from me.

See below for my tracert. Can this be resolved or should I switch to an ISP which is enabled at the North Melbourne exchange (~1.3km from me) to resolve this issue?

Hi @chatterytimmery ,

Welcome to the community!

Thanks for raising this to us. The Tracert result shows normal latency, we'd like to confirm what particular game(s) are affected with latency? Can you also post the latency you're getting in game on this thread for additional reference.

We're able to locate the account using your community details and ran an initial test, we noticed that the modem/router has been connected for 4weeks 3d 7h 24m. We recommend to perform a reboot on the modem for 3-5mins and check if the issue still persist.

Regards,

Hey Shane. It's less about the application and more about the high latency on the second-hop regardless of what I'm connecting to. 27ms to the edge router when I live in the CBD seems very high. I've never seen such latency in other places I've lived.

My friend lives in the suburbs over 50km away and he has less than 2ms ping to his second hop (even when his exchange is further away) meaning he gets lower latency to servers in the CBD when I live here! That doesn't seem reasonable to me.

I have rebooted my modem and still get high latency to second hop.
