TPG NBN25 price increase

Level 2

I have been a TPG customer for 10 years and am not happy with the $5 price increase on my NBN25 plan with home phone service from March 2024.

Prior to the price increase TPG sent an email about the upcoming price changes which stated:

"Due to a number of recent factors, including the changes in wholesale pricing from nbn, our lower-speed plans will become more expensive whilst our higher speed plans will become more affordable."

The suggestion that the TPG NBN25 plan price increase is related to the recent changes in NBN wholesale pricing is misleading and not consistent with the facts provided in the following two NBN media releases:

1) NBN media statement on recent NBN wholesale price changes dated the 24th of October 2023.
https://www.nbnco.com.au/corporate-information/media-centre/media-statements/statement-on-nbn-wholes...

and

2) NBN media statement on Wholesale Broadband Agreement (WBA5) with Retail Service Providers (RSPs) from 1 December 2023
https://www.nbnco.com.au/corporate-information/media-centre/media-statements/nbn-co-launches-new-who...

In particular the media statements include the following facts:

"NBN Co’s new wholesale prices, which come into effect on 1 December 2023, will see significant reductions in the prices of our entry level and higher speed tiers."

"For light internet users, we have created a 12/1 Mbps Basic Bundle, which has been discounted by $10 to be available for a wholesale price of $12. Our 25/5 Mbps product has been discounted by $11 and will be available for a wholesale price of $26."

It appears that TPG have absorbed the new NBN $11 discount on their NBN25 plans and actually raised the price by $5, increasing profits by $16 per month!

Personally I have looked at TPG's alternative Home Wireless Broadband and 5G Home Broadband plans but these do not offer any home phone service, presumably for marketing reasons. Also in my situation I have no need to upsize my Internet service to a higher speed and more expensive plan.

I see that other Internet service providers currently offer more attractive NBN25 plans than TPG with home phone capability.

For example:
Spintel - NBN 25/8Mbps plan for $45.00/month for 6 months then $54.95/month
Exetel - NBN 25/10Mbps plan for $49.99/month for 6 months then $59.99/month
Tangerine - NBN 25/8Mbps plan for $49.90/month for 6 months then $64.90/month

It might be time to move away from TPG who do not appear to be interested in retaining customers on lower end plans.
