Can the TP-Link Archer VR1600v router be used as local DNS server?

I have a mixture of Windows and Linux computes on the home LAN. All connected to the TP-Link Archer VR1600v router provided by TPG. All computers can see the internet and resolve internet domain names without any problems.

However, the Linux computer (Centos 7) is unable to resolve any computer names on the local network. The DNS on the Linux computer is set to the router gateway (192.168.1.1).

The router is providing DHCP services. (Allocating local IP addresses to each computer on the network). I can see all the clients listed correctly on the router admin pages.

From the Linux computer I can ping the windows computers by IP address, but ping by computer name fails because the name is unresolved. Ping from windows to linux by computer name works (it resolves it to an IPv6 address).

How can get the router to act as a local DNS for computers on my LAN and resolve the local computer names into IP addresses?
