FTTC NBN NCD Connection Light Flashing RED

SCA44

After switching my NBN box off overnight my box now won't connect. I get a very annoying clicking noise and a red flashing "chain link" connection light.

From a bit of research this seems to happen quite a bit when people turn the NBN box off for a period of time. Why is that?

I am now awaiting a call to reschedule a technician booking but I can't help but wonder of this problem really needs to technician call out to fix the problem. It seems like it's a glitch that should have a simple, easy fix.

Is there a non-technician call me out fix for this problem?

I've tried..
* cycling the router off and on
* checking for loose connections
* reset button
* using a different phone outlet

But still.. click click click click click

I've read not to switch it off though as it seems it occasionally resolves by itself.
