Hi

I'm having troubles with my TP-Link VR1600V router;

  1. I had to turnoff wifi, to stop interference with anouther router setup. Now its not turning back on, always giving me "Error code:1, internal error". Tried from laptop and phone multiple times.
  2. my firmware is out of date, and can't seem to find how to upgrade myself, from what i see in these forums, you guys remotely upgrade it for clients.

Thanks

Vincent

Hi @vincentcrispin,

Welcome to the community!

Thanks for raising this to us. What are you trying to accomplish with the modem? Are you trying to connect a 3rd party/extender router to our supplied modem?

If so, here are some threads that you may find helpful.

To confirm if the modem is on the latest firmware please post the following details.

Device Information:
Firmware Version:
Hardware Version:

Note:

We optimised the setup of our supplied modem to complement our specifically configured modem settings.  As the Home Phone component of your bundle is encrypted for security, you will need to use our modem if you are to make and receive phone calls.

Let us know how it will go.

Cheers!

Hi Shane,

Answering your question as to what I was trying to achieve with my modem; I was adding a more powerful wireless router (TP-Link AX50) as a LAN client of my modem. I have around 35 devices connected to my wireless network including many smart devices and electrical fittings (bulbs, plugs, etc), and since it would be a pain to change the settings all individually to a new network, I decided to rename my new WiFi network with the same name and credentials as the old WiFi. For this reason I switched off wifi on my TPG supplied VR1600V modem using the admin portal.

Now I've setup the new network with the same name and password as the old network, and all the devices switched over seamlessly. However when I go back to the VR1600V modem and try to rename the Wifi and switch it back on, it doen not seem to let me do that (the renaming of the wifi worked, but switching the wifi back on does not work). I've attached a screenshot of the error message here.

It is important for me to connect one laptop, which I use as a work server to connect to the modem directly, as i need a virtual server setup on this machine, which was working fine earlier but does not work while connecting via a client router.

The second part of the problem was the firmware upgrade. My firmware is as follows

Firmware Version: 0.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 200810 Rel.53181n
Hardware Version: Archer VR1600v v1 00000000
From the forums, I realise that this firmware is outdated and the latest versions are as follows

Hardware version: Archer VR1600v v1.0
NBN-FTTN/FTTB/HFC/FTTC = TP-Link VR1600: 0.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 180828 Rel.56416n
TPG-FTTB = TP-Link VR1600: 1.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 180828 Rel.35294n

Hardware version: Archer VR1600v v1.1 + v2.0
NBN-FTTN/FTTB/HFC/FTTC = TP-Link VR1600: 0.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 190228 Rel.72265n
TPG-FTTB = TP-Link VR1600: 1.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 190305 Rel.72906n

NBN-FTTP: C1200
Software version: 1.0.0 Build 20180208 rel.59779

Hi @vincentcrispin,

If you wish to use Wi-Fi of a extender/additional 3rd party router you have to disable the modem/router's (TPG's supplied modem) Wi-Fi. We have existing articles about this that you may find helpful, please see links below.

I apologise for the confusion the Build 200810 firmware is the latest version that we have for our supplied TP-Link vr1600.

Regards,
