Using a phone with a non TPG router

Hi have just purchased a Tp-Link mesh router due to slow speds and poor reception in a two storey apartment. Am on the NBN.
The new router doesnt allow for a phone to be connected to it.

Apparantly only the TPG provided router can allow for this to happen. It uses VOIP or maybe it's SIP?

TPG say there is no way to use a phone if there router is not used.

Has any one had this issue but come up with a solution so that they can still use a (landline like) phone with their service? Such that their landline phone numbe can still be used.
TPG tell me there have been other enquiries about his but that so far the tecnical people have not provided a solution to the use of non TPG routers and contiued phone use.
The new router gives a better service plus advanced fucntions that are not available with the TPG router.

Thx...

Hi @wedgetaile ,

Welcome to the community!

We provide the modem for all our NBN plans as they are sold as an Internet & Home Phone Bundle. As the Home Phone component of your bundle is encrypted for security, you will need to use our modem if you are to make and receive phone calls. The VoIP service will not work using a 3rd party modem/router.

Let us know should you require further assistance.

Cheers!
