VR1600v v1 internet disconnecting

We are having internet dropping out for long periods of time at irregular intervals, sometimes for a half an hour other times for half a day, this has been occuring for roughly six months. Uncertain of the cause of the issue. Doesn't matter whether it is a wired or wireless connection as on the TP-Link site internet status is disconnected.
Would a firmware update help resolve this issue?
