Newly installed NBN. Using Archer VR1600v modem router.
Coverage is fine in the main area of the house where the router is situated. Coverage is also fine in 1-3 m radius. However, on the far corners of the house around 5-10 metres (separated by multiple walls) coverage is abysmal and signal strength is poor (On both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz - the signal strength is ~ -73 dbm). The connection is unreliable and there are frequent dropouts.
Does TPG provide a better router for larger houses? Or can we just purchase a router better suited to the layout of our house?
Hi @spagnolisa88,
Welcome to the community!
The modem we provide is a standard modem and we’ve optimised the setup to complement our specifically configured modem settings. It is a reliable and efficient modem. We provide the modem for all our NBN plans as they are sold as an Internet & Home Phone Bundle. As the Home Phone component of your bundle is encrypted for security, you will need to use our modem if you are to make and receive phone calls.
Our modem is also pre-configured for internet access Some customers who do not use the home phone component of our bundle sometimes prefer to use their own NBN compatible modem. If this is the case, we can provide you the settings required to configure your 3rd party modem with the settings required to access the internet.
On the other hand, we did an article that you may find helpful. This will guide you on how to improve your wireless connectivity at home.
Cheers!
Am I to understand from your reply that do not provide any other modem router? and if so, can you provide me with a list of NBN HFC compatible modem routers?
Hi @spagnolisa88,
The modem/router that you currently have is the latest model that we supply. We do not have the list of compatible modem/router for NBN-HFC but as long as it a VDSL modem/router with an option to setup VLAN tagging that should work.
