Latency Issues

I've not really been happy with my Internet performance since it was installed but today its been pretty much unusable. Having looked in to it, I don't think its a speed issue but rater a latency issue with lots of timeouts as well. Any ideas on what's causing it?

Hi @Madeline82

Welcome to the Community!

Your traceroute results are really way off the charts which would explain why you're experiencing latency issues. Am I correct in saying that you're using a WIFI connection when you performed the tests? Can you run another traceroute using a computer/laptop that's hardwired to the modem?

If the results are the same with a hardwired connection, can you try performing ping tests as well for the following:

  1. Default Gateway of your modem
  2. For 10.20.20.196
  3. tpg.com.au

The reason why we're asking this is because we've tested the network and we're not detecting any issues so far. We're trying to determine if the problem is with the modem, WIFI connection, or if it's an underlying issue that we may need to raise for further checking.

Please post the screenshots of your results here.

Hi Will

Sorry for the late reply. The problem went away mid afternoon and has not returned. We had had a lot of rain that morning and I've seen rain impact ADSL performance at another address so maybe that caused it.

I don't think it was a WIFI issue as I had no issues talking to the router or other devices on the network. Unfortunately I have no computers with a network port so I could not check that. I am going to buy a docking station for my laptop so will be able to check it hardwired if it happens again.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Madeline82

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

I'm glad that the issue seems to have resolved on its own. Do let us know if you encounter the same trouble again and it would really be helpful if you'll be able to test hardwired connection when that happens.

Regards,
