My ADSL does not maintain a good connection, cutting out for short or long periods(hours)

For at least six months my ADSL connection has been flaky.   I have tried every available way I can to rectify this without success.    It has been progressively getting worse to the current day and now is totally unsatisfactory.   I desperately need it in this current pandema to communicate.   Please help me.   Otherwise I will have to find a new provider.
