Destination host unreachable on Wi-Fi network

Hi,

I have two Windows 10 laptops both connected to the same Wi-Fi 4 private network in my home via an Archer VR1600v router. Both can browse the world wide web without any problems. Neither can see each other. Each replies to the other when pinged but with "Destination host unreachable"

C:\Users\peteh>ping 192.168.1.117

Pinging 192.168.1.117 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.107: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.107: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.107: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.107: Destination host unreachable.

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.117:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss)

Neither of course can see each other under Network  in Windows File Explorer. Curiously I can ping the tv which is connected to the router via an ethernet cable. What's causing this bad karma?

Hi @PeteHarris . Sounds like AP Isolation, although this is disabled by default.

(If you want to confine and restrict all wireless devices connected to the network from interacting with each other, but still able to access the Internet, select the checkbox to enable AP Isolation.)

In router admin, Advanced, Wireless, Advanced settings. Untick the option.

Are both laptops on the same SSID (both 2.4G or both 5G)?

Hi @PeteHarris Check that both 'turn on network discovery' and 'turn on automatic setup of network connected devices' are enabled, obviously 'turn on file and printer sharing' should be enabled.
