Just had TPG50 setup today at home Brisbane and have found it to be worse then my 4G phone for gaming. High ping in the 300's but when I use my 4G I can get approx 150. I was expecting to be able to play the same game via my new NBN connection but cannot. Please advise if I need to do something special or is this all im gonna get?
Thanks
p.s. my old ADSL2 used to ping in the high 300's on the exact same game
p.s.s download speed comparisons using NBN50 and 4G..... NBN 6.7Mbs vs 4G @ 4.7Mbs, for the same game from Steam account, test done at 1.30pm
Hi @GIJane ,
Welcome to the community!
What game are affected with high latency issue? Also we'd like to confirm if other Online Games are having the same issue.
To get the actual speed of the service, we recommend to perform a speed test using an isolated desktop/laptop connected via LAN/Ethernet cable and post the test result on this thread for Troubleshooting reference.
Note: The download speed of a game on any is different to the actual speed test performed via http://www.speedtest.net.
Game download speed is the measurement of your connection (at home) going to Game Server. It is not the actual speed of the service.
Regards,
Hi Shane,
Thanks for the reply
Game is World of tanks Blitz via Steam
On my 4G mobile 135 - 165 ping
On New NBN50 275 - 330 ping
Download speed of War Thunder via Steam
My 4G 4.7Mbs
NBN50 6.7Mbs
Honestly thought NBN would smash 4G not just be a bit better
I'm using Surface Pro 3 - Wireless (no ports for LAN cables etc)
1 mtr distance from TPG Router
1 mtr distance from phone 4G
Hi @GIJane,
Please do the following troubleshooting below and send me the test result via Private message together with your account details (Username/Customer ID)
I. CONTINUOUS PING:
To conduct a continuous ping, ensure that none of your other PCs are doing internet activity.
Open up the command prompt of one of your PCs.
Type the following in "ping <IP address> -n 1000" without the quotations.
ping 192.168.1.1 -n 1000
ping 10.20.22.148 -n 1000
ping http://tpg.com.au -n 1000
Wait for the test to finish and for the PING STATISTICS, found at the end, to show up.
Save the screenshots.
We should have 3 ping test results.
II. TRACE ROUTE
To conduct a trace route,
Open up the command prompt of one of your PCs.
Type the following in "tracert http://tpg.com.au" without the quotations.
EXAMPLE: tracert http://tpg.com.au
Perform another trace route to your game server.
Save a screen shot of the traceroute results.
III. SPEED TESTS:
For speed tests, please run the speed tests at : http://www.speedtest.net
Please just get a screenshot after the test is complete.
Please don't forget to indicate the timestamps for these tests.

Hi
I will try this shortly
However to prove a point we upgraded to NBN100 last night
Now tested this morning same game WOT ping is 250 at best
My download speed from Steam is 10.7Mbs
Someone needs to tell me why my 4G gets low as 150 average and my TPGNBN 95Mbs gets 250 average?
Speed tests to me tell me unloaded capability of the connection, then add data and the true speed is revealed, if i'm not mistaken
When I was using ADSL2 for the same game i was getting ping around 250 - 330. We only just switched over to NBN on Tuesday so you can see why I'm more then a little distressed.
It's not the gaming issue, its the "not getting what u paid for".
We apologise for the inconvenience this issue is causing you,@GIJane. Please send the result of the additional test to helpdesk@tpg.com.au. Please also PM us your TPG customer ID, username and complete address so we can pull up the account and make a follow up with our Technical Team.
