Internet drops in Windy conditions

greghollyman

We have the NBN FTTC installation and whenever it is windy our Internet drops and will then reconnect.  On windy days this can happen on numerous occasions.  All items remain connected to the wifi.

As we work from home and use videoconferencing a lot this is becoming a major issue.

What can we do to address this issue?

Hi @greghollyman ,

There are different types of dropouts that you may experience:

1. Network dropouts, this dropout is caused by a line fault on TPG or NBN's network. Affecting all device(s) LAN/Wireless connected to the modem/router this may require a real-time test and investigation by our Technicians and Engineers.

2. Wireless dropouts, this issue only affects the device(s) connected via Wi-Fi which can easily be fix by doing adjustment to the modem/router's settings.

3. Dropouts caused by ongoing outage in your area.

In the event that you experience dropouts via Wireless/Wi-Fi connection, we recommend having a read on the following articles:

This is still an issue.  It is when there is strong gusts of winds the internet will drop , then reconnect.

As mentioned we work from home and this is causing video calls to contsatntly drop

Hi @greghollyman

What troubleshooting have you tried so far?

Did you notice any changes with the light status of the modem/router when the connection drops out?

Are you using a Wired or Wifi connection?

We have NBN FTTC with an internal wifi.  The various devices connected to the wifi inside the house will remain connected with the modem itself losing Internet connection, as also shown on the modem.

This only happens when there are gusts of wind, with reconnection happening automatically after the wind dies down.
