Issues setting up DSL-AC68U on TPG NBN FTTB

Hi, I am having some issues getting the Asus DSL-AC68U working on my NBN FTTB connection.

Main issue is that when I plug in the phone cable to the DSL-AC68U DSL port, the DSL light flashes but it stays stuck on 'Waiting for Init' and doesn't progress. 

When I plug in the same phone line into the TPG supplied modem and the line syncs and connects without issue. At the moment I am connected with the TPG supplied modem, but the Wifi connection provided by it is quite poor.

I have tried numerous things:

- Updated firmware

- Dual WAN page -> Primary WAN DSL. PPPoE connection type, VLAN ID 2 -> DSL: "Waiting for Init" 

- Factory Reset -> Config page/connection wizard -> DSL: "Waiting for Init"

Any ideas what could be the issue?
