No Increase in Speed after NBN Plan Upgraded

Finally, the replacement modem VR1600v arrived.

And I finally figured out what the root cause is that affects the speed.

The culprit is the parental control function - there is a bug in the VR1600v.

Both the original VR1600v and the replacement VR1600v behave the same and are with this bug.

With parental contral turn on, even if it is just based on a specific MAC, the throughout drops right down to ~50-60Mbps consistently for everyone!

With parental control off, eveyone's speed shots back up to ~200-250Mbps.

That explained why the VR1600v regained speed after a factory reset by the TPG technician during the site visit. Factory reset removed the parental controls back to default - OFF.

HG659 does not appear to have a parental-speed bug.

The orignial  VR1600v:

Firmware Version: 0.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 210413 Rel.19548n

Hardware Version: Archer VR1600v v2.0 00000000

The replacement VR1600v:

Firmware Version: 0.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 190228 Rel.72265n

Hardware Version: Archer VR1600v v2 00000000

Hi TPG Support,

Is there a fix to this bug in VR1600v - perhaps a firmware fix?

Hi TPG Support,

I'm seeking a fix to this problem.

It is found that turn on parental control in VR1600v will bring down the overall Internet speed to 1/4 of the NBN speed plan.

For example, for a NBN 200Mbps plan, turning on the parental control will cause the throughput from ~200Mbps down to ~50Mbps. That happens to at least these two VR1600v firmware versions under test:

Firmware Version: 0.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 210413 Rel.19548n

Hardware Version: Archer VR1600v v2.0 00000000

Firmware Version: 0.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 190228 Rel.72265n

Hardware Version: Archer VR1600v v2 00000000
