Thunderbird Email Setup (IMAP receive)

When setting-up our email account I get the error - "Login to server mail.tpg.com.au with username miattard failed" from Thunderbird.

 

Using these settings -

ServerName = mail.tpg.com.au
Port = 143 (default)
Connection Security = None
Authenification Method = Password, transmitted insecurely

Using our given username and password.

 

Post Office app works and  sending email is OK.

Hi,

Did you manage to get your email to work?

After re-installing ubuntu, I noticed that Thunderbird can no longer receive emails when configured as described on tpg.

Before, I believed I used pop3 instead of IMAP and I notice that the version of Thunderbird I am using does not provide a choice of using POP3 for receiving emals.

Further to my previous post, I now understand that for your IMAP connection to work your account must be set up for IMAP and not POP3. If you are still experiencing problems I would suggest that you check what setup you have for your account.

Thundirbird client is now using POP not IMAP and is working well.
