Thunderbird setup won't work.

I have tried probably 10 times or more to get my email set up with THUNDERBIRD (version 68.7.0) following instructions for setting up TPG email using Thunderbird (and the defaults) and everytime the first time it try to connect I get -

"Configuation could not be verified - is the username or password wrong"

I then go into MANUAL CONFIG and find that the 'outgoing' (SMTP) is defaulted/set to smtp.tpg.com.au which I then change to mail.tpg.com.au (as per the values TPG advises) AND

the port has defaulted/set to 587 so I change that to 25 (as per the values TPG advises)

I then get an error that the username or password must be wrong.

I enter EXACTLY the same as I use to login to the TPG website to obtain mail.

 

Why won't Thunderbird work?

First thing, can you go on to web based mail and test your account works on that.

I use thunderbird.

I have my server settings as     mail.tpg.com.au    port 143    starttls      normal password

 

Outgoing same but port 25

 

We dont support all email clients, but hope this helps.

Thanks for your quick response

I have NO trouble reading and sending emails via the web based mail. That (web based email) is the only method I currently have to receive and send. I would prefer though to use Thunderbird.

the TPG free email version only supports POP3 with incoming mail.tpg.com.au at 110 and outgoing at 587.

It worked for me with Thnderbird

I am having the same issue. New computer, tried following the instructions a number of times, checking and rechecking passwords etc. Thunderbird is "unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password"

 

I am able to log in and check at tpg post office webmail.

It also contain a guide on how to configure your email using specific email clients.

If the TPG email is proven to work using our post office and you followed the given setup instruction, unfortunately you may need to check for 3rd a party troubleshooting guide as we do not support 3rd party email client.
