Activate and using call waiting

I would like to activate and then use call waiting - i don't think it is enable on my phone service. Could you please check (& activate if required) and send instructions on how to use it ... all i can find in the forums is it is available and that i need to use the recall or flash button ..... this is not very descriptive.
