Can I cancel my Telstra phone service?

I have just had my NBN connected. I am/was with Telstra for home phone, but want to disconnect it as we dont use it and just use mobile phones for calls. Is this OK to disconnect with Telstra or do I have to stay with them  because they own the line. Pardon my ignorance, but am a bit confused.

If you requested to port your Telstra number with your newly installed TPG-NBN service you need to keep your Telstra home phone service until the porting is done before you cancel Telstra's home phone.

You may cancel your Telstra phone service since it is no longer required for your TPG-NBN service. Let us know should you require furher assistance./
