Does the ridiculous situation of having to use TPG supplied routers for a VOIP connection still exist?  Is there a work around usind a 3rd party router?

Hi @scappa, welcome to TPG Community!

For the home phone function to work, the use of TPG modem is required. Using 3rd party modem is still not supported.

Checking if this is still the case?  The provided archer model drops WLAN all the time, even 2m away.  The LAN is fine as is the other AP I have other end of the house.   Looking to replace the Archer modem with something more robust / powerful but ideally want to retain the bundled voice service.

That being said, this is becoming so annoying that I'd contemplate leaving TPG over it (been with you for 10+ years) as also don't want to loose more desk real estate by having to have NBN HFC box, TPG Router (for phone) and then 3rd party Router for reliable service.

Hi @preacher,

We responded to your initial post located here. The VoIP will only work using our supplied modem as the main authenticating device. You also have the option to use a 3rd party router as an extension by doing this you can still keep the VoIP service using our supplied modem.

Regards,

Frustrating, yes. As such just cancelled my TPG service after 20+ years. That'll be my little protest against the policy, not that anyone really cares.

We are sad to learn you feel that way, @scappa. Should you wish to speak with our Account Specialists team to discuss the procedure of service cancellation?
