Adding an TP Link EAP225 Access Point

Hi all,

I am a bit of a novice but after many tutorials and reading I managed to setup my Edgerouter X and access the internet on my PC.

I have configured an Edgerouter X router so that eth0 = WAN eth1=my PC and the internet operates on eth0.2 as VLAN. Also setup the PPPOE for the internet given it's TPG.

I am now trying to add an access point so tv can access the internet remotely. I am using a TP Link EAP225 Access Point for this purpose.edgerouterx edit.png

When I connect it all up to eth2, the light works on the access point etc but it doesn't assign an IP to it. You can see from the screenshot that it is connected but no IP.

When I go to the config tree and try and set the IP manually , I get the error of 'cannot configure address on switched interface'.

Does this mean I haven't configured this correctly? Should I re-run the basic setup and if so, could someone please provide step by step instructions for this given TPG need VLAN and PPPOE etc?

That's a photo of my dashboard.

I'd really appreciate some help as the internet through the Edgerouter X is so good for my PC and most routers are very expensive in comparison to the Edgerouter X.

Hi @Sarkisan . Connect your PC to eth2 just to check the port works. If your PC can access internet on both ports, the router is probably setup OK.

Connect a wifi device to the EAP's wifi and login to admin.

Check that unit is in standalone management.

In wireless settings, use WPA personal,  WPA/WPA2 PSK, AES or AUTO.

In Wireless > VLAN, disable VLAN for both SSIDs.

In Wireless > Band Steering, disable it in first instance.

In Management > Network, LAN IP Setup - Dynamic; no need for Fallback IP.

In your router, you can assign a reserved IP address for the EAP MAC address

Hi Dave,

When I connect my PC to eth2 the internet doesn't work. Out of curiosity, I tried plugging my PC into eth4 and the internet worked on that port. When I tried to plug the EAP225 into eth4 and my PC back into eth1, when I go to login to 192.168.1.1, the initial page loads but when I enter my login details 'ubnt' and 'admin' it took absolutely forever to login.

On the Dashboard, eth4 is 'connected' but there's no IP assigned to it and when I go to services – > leases it isn't listed there either.

Veryfrustrating. Should I reset the edgerouter x and start again?

After resetting the EAP225, under Services on the Router, it came up:

services.pngI then typed the IP address and logged into the EAP.  I setup the network exactly following the steps in your post and whilst I can connect to it on my phone via wireless, it does not have internet!

It must be something to do with my edgerouter x settings but I can't for the life of me work it out.
