Cant get internet

So we signed up to nbn Friday gone, we got the activated email on Sunday, modem today. Attempted to set it up to no avail. Been on hold for almost 2 hours trying o get through to tech support. It seems we have a red alarm light on the modem, and the only fix I've found is to call tech support...

If anyone can shed some light on this, that's be great. Cant sit on hold for hours with no indication of being answered
