Connecting Laptop straight to NBN modem

Hi, I'm having problems with my Netgear Nighthawk router so I called up Netgear and they told me to connect my laptop straight to my NBN modem (to download 2 programs needed to fix the router problem)

I connected my laptop straight to the modem but still can't access the internet.

They told me to call TPG to tell them I'm connecting a laptop to the modem instead of a router.

Do I need to actually call TPG or can it be fixed on my end?

Thank you

Hi @BulldogEdd

Welcome to the Community!

We tried to search for your account using your community details to no avail.

If you are under the NBN FTTP (Fibre to the premises) technology, then connecting your Laptop directly to the NTD box will work given that you'll create a dialer to configure the PPPoE settings.

If you are under the NBN HFC (Hybrid Fibre to Coax) technology, then it will not work as you need a VLAN ID 2 configuration along with the PPPoE settings.

You may send me a PM with your TPG username or customer ID number if you need further assistance or contact our Tech team for real time support.
