My old modem did not need to be connected directly to my computer. I have just upgraded and the new modem setup instructions require direct connection to the computer. My phone connection is in a completely different room. Do i need to order a different type of modem?
I'd like to clarify if your phone connection (which is in a different room) also has your new modem/router.
If yes, and your computer/desktop is located (also in a different room) you can try to use Ethernet Cable long enough to reach your Desktop from the modem's location.
