I replaced a lost SIM card and activated it 2 days ago. Now my iPhone says the old number will expire is 8 days and a new number has appeared on the phone. How do I revert the new SIM to the old number?

Have you activated the replacement SIM card? If not yet, we need to activate the replacement SIM card.
