Sending' reported error (0x80004005) : 'The operation failed.'

This is an intermittent error where emails stay in Outlook for hours before sending.  I've tried disabling the email security in Norton and that has made no difference.

 

Any suggestions?

Does this happen to all outgoing emails? 

With or without attachment?

Look at the Windows event log (eventvwr.exe). 

In Windows help, search for event log and click on Open Event Viewer and then the link in the text.

The internet contains suggestions for this problem.
