What is the NBN Service Class?

The network provider uses the "Service Class" for your location to classify and describe how the internet is delivered to your address and to indicate what phases of installation have been finished.

Although knowing your class isn't especially crucial, studying these can be useful for comprehending how the internet is supplied to your location.

NBN Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)

Service Class Description
Service Class 0 The area will eventually be serviceable by fibre (FTTP), but it isn't ready now because NBN hasn't finished connecting the neighbourhood. Consumers are allowed to pre-sign, but they must wait until the space is available for use.
Service Class 1 Although the location can be reached by fibre, no NBN equipment has yet been set up there. You can place an order for a service and schedule an installation time.
Service Class 2 The area is prepared for a fibre optic connection. The NBN external equipments have been installed, but the interior equipment has not. You can place an order for a service and schedule an installation time.
Service Class 3 Both the internal and exterior equipments are present, and the location has full fibre installation and serviceability. An order can be placed and the service will be activated remotely.

NBN Fixed Wireless (FW)

Service Class Description
Service Class 4 Fixed Wireless is expected to be able to provide service at the location, however the tower is not yet constructed or operational. Clients can pre-sign even though you can't connect yet. You'll need to wait till NBN makes the location available for service.
Service Class 5 NBN Fixed Wireless is now able to provide service at the site, however there is no equipment present. A service can be ordered, and an installation appointment can be scheduled.
Service Class 6 The area is prepared to establish a fixed wireless connection. The NTD (NBN connection device) and antenna have been installed. An order can be placed and the service will be activated remotely.

NBN Fibre to the Node/Building (FTTN/B)

Service Class Description
Service Class 10 The location is expected to be copper serviceable for FTTN/FTTB, however it is not yet ready. Although NBN is still in the development stages, customers can pre-sign with us. Consumers are allowed to pre-sign, but they must wait until the space is available for use.
Service Class 11 Copper technology is ready to connect to the area, but more work is required. It's best to make some preparations for the lead-in cabling before your installation. You can place an order for a service and schedule an installation time.
Service Class 12 Copper technology is ready to connect to the area, but more work is required. Jumper cabling is all you need for this session to get you online. If the line isn't already in use, you can order a service and schedule an installation appointment. The technician will complete the necessary work at the node rather than going to the house.
Service Class 13 All necessary cabling has been installed and linked at the location, making it ready to connect utilising copper technology. An order can be placed and the service will be activated remotely.

Service Class 23 HFC technology is available for connection, but more work may be required to deploy a network device. If a self-installation kit cannot be used, you can order a service and schedule an installation appointment.
Service Class 24 With the installation of all necessary cabling and equipment (NTD), the location is prepared to connect using HFC technology. An order can be placed and the service will be activated remotely.
