Router: Model: SAGEMCOM FAST 5866T Software Version: SGJy10021E GUI Version: 5.138.5 Android device: Model: Samsung S24 Ultra Android version: 14 Issue Background: Certain apps like Strava, Life360, and Microsoft Authenticator work perfectly on mobile data but significantly slow down when connected to Wi-Fi, especially on home networks. This issue started around four months ago. My only possible theory is TPG has pushed out and updated an 'incompatible' firmware. The router does not match with the ISP infrastructure settings in the backend. Causes of Slowness: Android devices get IPv6 address as primary DNS server. However TPG (Vodafone ISP) does not support IPv6, this can be verified using the following link: https://ipv6-test.com, hence translations and lookups fails, hence the observed slowness when using the Wi-Fi. Why Mobile Network Works: Mobile networks still primarily use IPv4, allowing apps to function properly. It is an irony but disabling IPv6 is only possible on mobile networks, not Wi-Fi, without rooting the Android device, which risks voiding the warranty. Non-root Solution: While a non-root solution exists, it poses security risks. Using apps like 'DNS Changer' (AppAzio) from Google Play Store can force Android devices to use IPv4 and Google DNS, resolving the speed issue. I only install to test to verify the issue, use at your own risk when using workaround. Options for End Users: Advocate for firmware updates that allows disabling IPv6. Explore options to roll back firmware updates. ISP to adopt and support IPv6. Utilize DNS changer apps to block IPv6. Consider switching to an ISP. The purpose of this is to raise awareness and hopefully bring about enough change.

To TPG Support, Please provide a firmware update that includes the option to disable IPv6 in the user interface. There have been numerous discussions about this issue. Certain Android apps, such as Strava, Life360, and Microsoft Authenticator, work perfectly on mobile data but become significantly slower when connected to WiFi, specifically on home networks. I've observed this behavior consistently with both Samsung S22 and S24 devices using the SAGEMCOM FAST 5866T router. We're gradually gaining insight into the root cause of this issue. Disabling IPv6 can sometimes improve the performance of apps like Strava and others. While I don't have all the technical details, my understanding is that IPv6 isn't universally supported across the entire Internet infrastructure. Given that TPG (Vodafone ISP) doesn't support IPv6, allowing end-users to disable it in the UI seems like a reasonable solution. The use of IPv6 might necessitate additional translations and lookups, which could be contributing to the observed slowness. The main issue I have is when I tried to connect older ipad to either 2.4Gh ot 5Gh, I get the error "Unable to join the network 'Network Name'". I have both different SSID for 2.4G and 5G. I have also tried changing from WIFI6 to WIFI5 but it did not work either. There is no option to disable 'band steering' in the menu tab either. The issue is the devices that connect via WPA2-Personal previously does not work with Sagemcom WPA2/WPA3-Personal authentication, and there is no option to support WPA2-Personal authentication in the Sagemcom 5G modem. Is there a newer firmware that address this problem?
