FTTB - any power back up on building equipment?

Is there any battery back up / UPS on TPG's FTTB equipment installed in the comms room for an apartment building? Not the equipment in my apartment - I understand that will stop work without power - I mean the FTTB equipment for the building.

Today there was maintenance work being done on the fire system in my apartment complex and, as part of that, the power was switched off to part of the carpark. Power was still working in my apartment and the rest of the complex during this time. While the carpark was without power, my TPG FTTB connection was lost, meaning any battery back up on the equipment failed and I should notify TPG (if there is any power back up). Any info would be appreciated Smiley Happy

Good morning,

Thank you for your message, I have attached an information sheet relating to TPG FTTB services that explains Backup Power to TPG equipment.

I hope it answers your question

Backup Power Service:
The FTTB equipment TPG installs in your building includes a backup
battery unit which will keep some elements of your telephone service
operating if there is a power outage in your building. This backup
battery unit will keep power going to TPG’s FTTB equipment in your
building but it will not supply power to either your handset or your
Internet modem router. This means that if you have a telephone
handset that does not require power and that handset is plugged
into the wall socket where TPG delivers the FTTB with Home Phone
service, then if there is a power outage you will be able to make and
receive telephone calls (including calls to emergency services) for a
period of up to 4 hours. However, if you have a telephone handset that
needs power to function (e.g. wireless handset); then during a power
outage, you will not be able to make or receive any calls, including
calls to emergency services.

Thanks for the help David and Peter. That makes sense. We haven't had trouble with internet dropping out during fire inspections before so it looks like normally there is a battery backup on the TPG equipment in the MDF room for the building.

I'll log a support call letting the team know the battery backup on the TPG equipment in the MDF didn't work on this occasion. Maybe the battery needs a hug 🙂.
