Increased latency

My plan ID: 5102003

Upgraded my plan to NBN Cable Broadband Unlimited Superfast yesterday

But now latency has increased while using VPN, previously it was about 160 ms and now it is about 425 ms.

Had a chat with one of your support team member, but the response was highly unsatisfactory

I use VPN for streaming videos and gaming.

I have done a traceroute, have a look

Hi @drravi1110

We checked the account and reviewed the notes from our Tech team.

You've advised that when you did not use your VPN, the latency is within specification.

Also, the latency shows that it happens once, you reached the international server.

Have you contacted your VPN provider to check if there's any issues with their end? If not, please contact them first as our team was not able to detect any fault within our side.

Dear BasilDV

Thanks for your reply.

As previously mentioned, my latency increased after I upgraded my plan, before that it was fine.

I am not using any commercial VPN provider, I have my own VPS and OpenVPN server configured on it, I am the only user, it is not shared.

Today I checked latency through my linux server (Amazon -Sydney) have a look below

Hi @drravi1110

Do you have any tracert test prior to the update or plan upgrade?

We'd like to check on this further.

Dear BasilDV
If you look at the traceroute
You see the hops
Australia-Tokyo-Singapore-India
Actually it should be Australia-Singapore-India
I don’t understand that hop to Japan ?
That’s what is causing the increase in latency

Hi @drravi1110,

I refreshed the connection of the service to our network, please perform another series of test to check if there is an improvement.

Let us know how it will go.

Cheers!

I spoke with my friend who lives on the other side of city, he uses Openvpn - server configured on DigitalOcean (Bangalore India) and his latency is about 130 ms !!!!! with Telstra

Seems something is not correct with TPG's international routing.

I am now thinking of changing my NBN provider

Thanks Team TPG

Since yesterday evening my latency while using VPN is now reduced to about 165-170 ms, better than what is was after the upgrade (500 ms)

I hope this will remain constant
