Nbn setup

I was advised by the TPG representative that even though I was getting the NBN bundle with phone (which I will never use) that I would not actually have to plug a handset into the box for it to work but from looking at the installation guidelines it says that you need to plug a handset in during set up! So now I will have to go purchase a handset. Is this correct or is there a way around this?

No, you don't need to have a phone plugged in to the HG659 for the modem to work and provide internet access.

I know because I had internet access via the modem before I connected the phone lines to the modem.
