Online Gaming 10-25% Packet loss

Hi,

Switched from Telstra recently, I immeidately noticed the increase in packet loss to PUBG AU servers.

The internet plan I am on is NBN Home Ultrafast (HFC). I've attached the traceroute result to the gaming server 13.54.236.179 and it seems to be a routing issue on TPG side.

Hi @comput3rsaysno ,

Welcome to the community!

Thanks for raising this to us. Please perform the following test below.

I. CONTINUOUS PING:

To conduct a continuous ping, ensure that none of your other PCs are doing internet activity.
Open up the command prompt of one of your PCs.
Type the following in "ping <IP address> -n 1000" without the quotations.
ping 192.168.1.1 -n 1000
ping 10.20.22.148 -n 1000
ping http://tpg.com.au -n 1000

Wait for the test to finish and for the PING STATISTICS, found at the end, to show up.
Save the screenshots.

We should have 3 ping test results.

II. TRACE ROUTE

To conduct a trace route,
Open up the command prompt of one of your PCs.
Type the following in "tracert http://tpg.com.au" without the quotations.
EXAMPLE: tracert http://tpg.com.au

Perform another trace route to your game server.

Save a screen shot of the traceroute results.

III. SPEED TESTS:

For speed tests, please run the speed tests at : http://www.speedtest.net
Please just get a screenshot after the test is complete.
Please don't forget to indicate the timestamps for these tests.

Drop me a private message with your account details (Username/Customer ID together with the address on file). Also include the test results.

How do I private message (PM) in the community

Regards,

Hi @comput3rsaysno . I'd be interested in your test results. Maybe you could post them back in this thread. Don't post your private details though.

On your original tracert, main problem (apart from not reaching the game server) seems to be reaching your router's default gateway (hop 2). Response should be under 10 ms.

Regarding TPG's tests, the third ping should just be     ping tpg.com.au -n 1000     .

And,      tracert tpg.com.au

In the speed test, check that the server is not sending out ads during the test. You might like to use TPG's own speed test.

Hi mate,

I’m glad I found your post. I’ve got the exact same problem, it only started last week but I am a Telstra HFC NBN customer. Are by chance in Adelaide? That’s where I’m experiencing the problems from.

I appreciate this is TPG support and I’m not asking for help, but I’ve had the same problem. So I’m interested to see the resolution.

I have posted this to CrowdSupport too: https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/home-broadband/packet-loss-on-telstra-hfc-nbn/td-p/939808

I saw some of your traces and they’re in similar spots. My problems have been both PUBG and Fortnite both AWS.

I see that you are a gamer, so I would like to recommend loot boxes for gamers (link here https://drakemall.com/boxes/pc-master-race-box ). These are mystical boxes for true pc fans. Together with these boxes, you can build a gaming rig along with top devices like CPU or GPU.
