Hi there,
I have recently experience some extreme slow speeds of internet. I have a 50Mbps link and I did a speed test last week and got around 40Mbps. Now I am getting about 5Mbps. Done the usual restart router etc. Anyone have any ideas?

I even used re-attached the N300 NetComm device. No dice.

Hi @Connor

What kind of NBN are you using and what modem/router do you have?

Hey 2fly - I have FTTP and am using a Netgear N600 Modem/Router

Hi @Connor

Have you tried to connect a computer/laptop directly to the NBN NTD and use a direct broadband connection.

This will tell us if the issue is coming from local network or NBN network.

If the speed is good on a direct NBN NTD broadband connection then it means that the issue is coming from one of your devices.

No, I have not tried that method. Is there any tricks to doing this?

There's no tricks. It's just a simple stuff to diagnose the issue properly.

The idea is to take away the router and other devices that may cause the issue.

Because most of the time if not always, it's the devices on the end user's local network is causing speed issue such as auto update or auto sync system or app on other devices.

Connecting a computer or a laptop directly to the NBN NTD will eliminate the possibilty of your local network issue.

What kind of laptop to you have?

Is it MAC or Windows?

So I connected to the NTD box, got 35Mbps. Connected it back to the modem got 34.73Mbps. So basically this is saying the contention on my line is dropping my throughput to about 1.5Mbps at peak (no downloads happening or updates).

That is absurd!

But thank you for your time 2fly.
