Home Phone HISSING

When someone calls me on the home phone, the line is hissing on there side they ring back up to 5 times before they get a clear line. This started to happen in the past three week, before that, all was ok.

Need a bit more information, does it happen on a call from the same caller every time? Are you on ADSL or NBN? Is the caller on ADSL or NBN?

It happens from all different callers from home lines and mobiles, the service is ADSL plan with home phone bundle in canberra

Thanks for the extra info @despeters, can you try and make a call from a mobile to your home fixed line or get a friend to give you a call while your ADSL modem is switched off, if the noise disappears it may be a faulty ADSL filter/splitter.
