Phone with FTTC

Yesterday I successfully installed my FTTC connection. Did not connect a phone at this time.

Today I connected my phone - Uniden DECT 1635 + 2 Series cordless phone.

I also requested to port my existing phone number.

Questions: Do I have to wait sometime for this to setup or should I be able to use the phone straight away?

I ask this because at the moment it does not work!
