Porting in VOIP number

I am alreday a TPG customer but I am no longer in contract.


I want to port in my VOIP number from another carrier to use with my TPG service as I am receiving unwanted calls on my current number Or just change my number.


I have been told that a port in of a number can only be done an activation stage,

so my question is what is the best way to proceed.


As I am out of contract should i just cancel my service then re-apply for a new TPG service and at that time request the port in of the number?


Is there any other way of doing it without having to disconnect then reconnect simply for the purpose of porting in my number?
