Hi guys,
I have a 4TB USB drive (NTFS format) plugged into my router, but can't access any folder that contains a file larger than exactly 2GB (2,147,483,648 bytes).
This problem only seemed to start happening a few months ago.
Cheers,
Ellen
Welcome to the Community!
As you've advised that this issue started happening a few months ago, do you mean that you were able to access the files that's larger than 2GB?
If it was working fine before, then have you tried to reset the modem/router? There's no indication in the manual of the device if there's a limitation in accessing a large file via USB file sharing.
If you are still unable to access files larger than 2GB even after reset, then you may contact TP-Link for further assistance. This type of specific detailed issues regarding USB file sharing is beyond our scope of support. Apologies if we're unable to assist you any longer as we do not want to cause any further issue on the modem.

Hi,
I have the same issue, however my external disk is only 1TB and formated with EXT3. I'm glad you specified you were using NTFS, I won't waste my time migrating filesystems to see if that resolves it.
So... have you found a solution to this problem?
Peter.
I have the exact same router as ellentaylor911 , with the exact same Firmware and Hardware specs, and have a 32GB USB drive attached to it.
Ever since I got this router when I got NBN in March last year, it is unable to copy files greater than 2GB through Windows 10 File Explorer (which I understand uses SMB/Samba). Any attempt to copy files over this size brings up the window "There is already a file with this name on the destination" and pressing "Replace file in destination" brings up a "There is not enough space on the drive" even if the drive is completely empty. In addition, after selecting either "Replace" or skip" there is a file (with the name of the file I was trying to copy) with zero bytes on the drive.
Files of any size, even greater than 2GB will copy perfectly fine over FTP, and can be accessed through specialised apps (such as Windows "Films & TV" app for music and video files) but any folder that contains a file greater than 2GB, when trying to show it in File Explorer will result in "Windows can not access \\Archer_VR1600v\volume(sda1)" error (and if copied to the root of the drive can't show the drive contents at all).
I have tried with drifferent drives formatted to FAT32, NTFS and exFAT and all produce the exact same symptoms, suggesting it must be some compatibility problem in the router regarding SMB access.
Is there any solution found for this? Any firmware upgrade that sovles this?
Hi @Sparky_Kestrel,
Thanks for the additional details about this particular issue. I raised this to our Network Engineering Team for investigation, we'll provide an update on this thread when it becomes available.
Regards,

Hi Shane, any update on a firmware fix for this? ...I think I'm having the same issue:
Windows 10 can access the fileshare - but not any folder containing any files 2GB+.
A Kodi (linux-based) media-centre can access the folders Win 10 can't - but any files that should be >2GB, are showing as "0-bytes", and won't play. It's really annoying. I'm also using NTFS, and it's a 2TB drive.
I noticed it only affects CIFS / Samba fileshare (i.e. "Network Neighbourhood" shares). FTP still seems to work OK.

Jordan
Firmware Version:0.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 200810 Rel.53181n
Hardware Version:Archer VR1600v v1 00000000
I can confirm the same issue is happening to me. Just glad I tested this before spashing out on a large external HDD. Looks like I'll be splashing out on a NAS instead. Thanks guys
Any word back from the engineering team?
The 2GB file size limit means back-ups are out of the question.
I was about to start looking at other modems, but if this can be addressed with the supplied TPG modem, even better.
Hi CobraBlade, still waiting for the TPG engineering team to respond I'm afraid.
I think they have forgotten about us! :-(
Due to the silence from the TPG tech here, I contacted TP-Link directly and have some very good news.
They got me to try a beta firmware update they are working on to see if that fixed the issue and it did! No more 2GB limit.
