Is Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 compatible with NBN FTTC plan?

Hello,

I've read in several places that the Telstra Gen 2 modem is not compatible with the TPG NBN service because you aren't able to set the VLAN ID = 2.  I've tried connecting the Gen 2 modem just to see, and as expected it doesn't connect.

I stumbled across this TPG article however that seems to indicate the Gen 2 modem should work:

https://support.tpg.com.au/how-set-telstra-smart-modem-gen2-nbn-fttc

Has anyone had experience getting the Gen 2 modem working with TPG.  Is it just that I'm not on the 'right plan', or does something need to be changed on the TPG side to allow it to connect?

Cheers,

D.

Hi @SunTanDan

The device will work if you are under the NBN data only plan.

If you are under the bundled NBN with VoIP service, then it will not work as you need to set the VLAN ID to 2.

Ah Ok, thanks Basil.  I thought it might be something like that.

It looks like the 50mb Data Only plan is a bit more expensive than my current 50mb Bundled plan.  I'll call the Change Plan team to see if they can help me out.

Cheers,

D.
