New modem not connecting to the internet

Level 1
I got my modem yesterday. I've plugged it into the wall socket and turned it on. However the DSL light nor the internet light isn't on after getting the messages of both that my internet is processed and it's active!
I chatted to someone yesterday and said there's something wrong between the server and something else.
What do i do?
Is there someone I can talk to?
