Set up ASUS RT 86U Pro Router for HFC NBN

I wanted to upgrade our home Wifi to a better router and bought the Asus RT 86U Pro today.

Unfortunately, it does not connect to the internet using the credentials from the other (supplied) router.

The settings I have tried are:
Connection type PPPoE,
Username and password as in the old router,

WAN IP automatic,
Internet detection "PPP Echo"

Other settings see attached file (defaults).

I don't have (or don't use) any TV subscription nor VoIP phone.

When connected to the NBN box (like the old supplied router) the router reports "Internet disconnected".

Any advice where I could start debugging it would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards

Jost

EDIT: I have now also tried with a username _without_ "@tpg.com.au", but am getting the same result.

The system log contains the following lines (seems to point to a problem with the IP address):

Hi @jberthold . If you have Bundled NBN/VOIP plan (even if you don't use the phone), you have to set VLAN ID 2. If your old router is VR1600, go to Advanced, Network, EWAN. Click Modify icon for ewan_pppoe interface. Check if VLAN is enabled.

On Asus,

  1. Select Advanced Settings > LAN > IPTV.
  2. Set the ISP Profile to Manual.
  3. Set Internet VID to 2 and PRI to 0.

Is Asus  AC86U or AX86U?

Thanks, @david64 that worked!

The router is the RT AX86U. I am now running it with 1GB mode, will try the 2.5G mode, too. but it is generally working after setting the "Internet VID" to 2 as instructed.
