Set up Netgear Orbi AX4200 with TPG FTTC service

Just wanted to know if there was anything I need to do to the Archer router settings or do I just plug into a router ethernet port?

Do you have a 'how-to' sheet on this or similar?

Many thanks

greg

Hi @gregnaimo3 . Do you want to connect the Netgear to the Archer? That would lose some of the performance of the Netgear. The VOIP phone service requires that the Archer is connected to the NBN box.

No just want to extend the wifi strength and service (using the Orbis) throughout the house where it is weak,, can this be done?

@gregnaimo3 . To connect the Orbi to the NBN box, the settings are PPPoE, username with @tpg.com.au, and password. FTTC needs VLAN ID=2.

This iiNet article has instructions for the Orbi RBK50 which has a similar menu structure to yours.

The VR1600 could be cabled to one of the Orbis and used as an access point.

So I loose the voice service if I do this??

If so - what is the recommended way/product to extend to a WiFi mesh product while retaining the original Archer router??

@gregnaimo3 . To keep the VOIP service, there are no changes to the VR1600.

From the Orbi manual:

To set up the Orbi router as an AP after you set up your Internet connection:
1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the Internet port of this router to a LAN port on
your existing router or gateway.
2. Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your
Orbi network.
3. Enter orbilogin.com.
A login window opens.
4. Enter the admin user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time
that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page displays.
5. Select ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Router/AP Mode.
The Router/AP Mode page displays.
6. Select the AP Mode radio button.
The page adjusts.
7. Select the IP address setting:
• Get dynamically from existing router. The other router on the network assigns
an IP address to this router while this router is in AP mode.
• Enable fixed IP settings on this device (not recommended). Use this setting
if you want to manually assign a specific IP address to this router while it is in AP
mode. Using this option effectively requires advanced network experience.

(Assign a fixed ip address, say 192.168.1.2 so you can easily login to it.)

Note: To avoid interference with other routers or gateways in your network, we
recommend that you use different WiFi settings on each router. You can also turn
off the WiFi radio on the other router or gateway and use the Orbi only for WiFi client
access.
8. Click the Apply button.
The IP address of the router changes, and you are disconnected.
