NBN HFC via phone line

Hi there,

My apartment building is wired up to the NBN via HFC, but when I arranged with TPG to have my apartment connected, the technicians who arrived said that, because I have no coaxial socket, I would have to arrange someone to run some cabling in and install sockets etc.

However, I've just had a private technician come around who told me the NBN can be connected through the existing phone line. He tested and tagged the line to make it clear to the installer, and no additional cabling or sockets have been installed.

I'm finding it difficult to find any definitive information on this question on this forum or elsewhere. Is this correct — should the NBN guys who turned up the first time have been able to set everything up? Or is there a step I'm missing between testing the line and calling TPG to have it installed?

Any help appreciated!
