Unstable NBN connection when playing games

Hi,

When playing minecraft my NBN connection very often (every 10 minutes or so) disconnects from the minecraft server with an error message 'An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host' pointing to an unstable connection. I do not see this problem when I use the exact same computer setup but tethered to my Amaysim 4G phone internet, and ethernet switched off. I am using your Huawei HG659 modem/router. Is there anything you can do to improve the situation?

Cheers

Hey, rankenburg. We ran an initial test to the service and confirm that no line fault is affecting the connection but we noticed that the modem/router has been turned on since December of 2021. We suggest to atleast turn off the modem/router for 3mins and once its reconnected let us know if the issue will still persists.

Hi,

after the reboot it seemed intially better (hard to tell) but recently i get very frequent disconnects again. Again, this does not occur when using the 4g mobile network, so the problem doesn't seem to be server-side. is there a possibillity to switch to a more modern router (the HG569 is maybe getting old)? can I use a BYO modem with my current VOIP plan?

Hi rankenburg.

Please perform a speed test using desktop/laptop via www.speedtest.net also a tracert, ping test  post the test result  on this thread for reference. These tests will help us determine the what causing latency issues.

We ran an initial test to the service it shows getting a passing speed and no dropouts reported.

First off I rebootet my modem, and the HG659 reset the system time to 2010-01-01 08:01:24. I cannot find anything to change system time anymore so I assume you changed the modem's firmware? How do I update system time now?

speedtest.net test on vodafone.com.au:

down 52.53 Mbps, up 18.81 Mbps

PING vodafone.com.au : 64 data bytes

--- vodafone.com.au ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss,round-trip min/avg/max = 53/53/54 ms

Hi @rankenburg

Firmware updates are done manually upon request. You may log in to your modem's GUI and send us the firmware version so we can check if it's updated.

You're getting a pretty good download speed as you have posted and ping results seemed to be good, too.

We'll have a member of our Tech team to assist and check for any underlying connection issues. May I know the best time to call you tomorrow, 13 June 2022?

Thanks!
