cancellation pre paid mobile sim only plan

I want to cancel my mobile service, was told I needed to give 7 days notice prior to next billing date which is 2 weeks before the end of the plan's month, meaning I will lose 3 weeks of that month. Or can I get a refund if I cancel after payment (cancelling at the end of the month)
